My Story
I grew up in Indonesia before immigrating to the United States at the age of 16. As a child, I enjoyed drawing but did not pursue art further. After moving to California, I became focused in a career in healthcare and completed a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies.
I worked as a Physician Assistant (PA) for a year in California and decided to move to the Caribbean for its beautiful landscape and warmer weather. This is how I ended up in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands - my home since 2013.
Around 2019 I began to dabble in art as a form of therapy and self-care. Not long after, I found my true passion in watercolor. Watching the color pigments flow and dance together with water is nothing short of magical. I am a self-taught watercolor artist and most of my work is inspired by nature, my travels or life on the island. I try to take my audience to that specific moment in time, to capture the essence of beauty and fun the world has to offer. The creative process of making art has taught me to focus on the present moment and to enjoy the journey of each piece. Every painting made, good or bad, has something for me to learn.
I have participated in a few art exhibits in St. Croix since 2022. One of my original paintings, “Day Well Done”, was featured on the 2023 Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts (CMCArts) calendar. Another original floral painting titled “This Love is Simple” was selected to be the cover art for the January 2024 edition of the St. Croix This Week magazine.
Also in 2024, I began to embark on a new path in my art journey: the Yosi W Collection online shop was born. Here you can find original artworks, art prints and stationery cards available for sale. I also collaborate with several different shops locally in St. Croix to carry my brand.
You will notice that all of my original paintings are signed Yosi W – my name in Indonesian as a way to pay tribute to my heritage.
Lastly, I want to thank you all for visiting my website, getting to know me and supporting me in my art journey.
Much love and gratitude,
Josie
