I had the best time traveling solo to Spain in early 2024. I spent a few days in Sevilla and absolutely loved it. Sevilla and the Andalusian region is known as the birthplace of the Flamenco dance, so of course I had to watch a live performance when I was there.

Flamenco dance is usually accompanied by hand clapping, and music (mainly guitar, sometimes the dancers also hold castanets) as well as singing. Everything in flamenco is very emotional and expressive. The dance itself is very sharp, precise yet very fluid - and this is exactly what I wanted to portray with this painting. 

I am so in love with this painting, and it holds a very special place in my heart - as is Sevilla, Spain. I sincerely hope I can transfer that emotional and expressive dance on paper so that my audience feels what Flamenco is.
